I have been noticing a lot of the best of 2014 on other blogs, from food to DIY highlighting their best, some are even doing their top recipe flops of 2014. Believe me I have had my flops this year. I think sometimes I have Chef Ramsay sitting at my kitchen table, only he is Italian and not Scottish. If it is good no need to talk, just eat, if it sucks, duck (no just kidding!).
So I decided that I was going to do my top 10 Underrated Recipes of 2014. These are the recipes that make everyone I have made them for beg for seconds. One of these is even my sister’s favourite dish of all time, another is my daughter’s favourite.
If you are looking for something totally Italian (and a couple not so totally Italian) and maybe even a little bit different, why not give one of these 10 underrated recipes a try. Let me know what you think.
I am going to start off with my eldest daughter’s favourite Smoked salmon cream sauce. This is one of many recipes I first tried many moons ago made by my sister-in-law.
This amazing Pasta with A Pepper Cream Sauce which is my sister’s absolute favourite dish and is always requested when I visit in Toronto or I have the pleasure of her company here in Italy.
I have to say you can’t get anymore classic then this Spaghetti, Aglio, Olio and Peperoncino (garlic, oil and hot pepper flakes), this is my OK they will be home in 15 minutes and I need something on the table now! This is one of those “just because it is quick doesn’t mean it is a below par pasta dish”. You can even add some diced fresh tomatoes when they are in season. I love this pasta recipe.
I have to say #4 is a shocker for me. I spent years looking for this Lazy cabbage Rolls recipe everywhere. And where did I find it? But on my last visit to Toronto, thank you my dear sister.
Seriously no one is interested in this one? Zucchini stuffed with Tuna, Ok, I know it isn’t zucchini season yet but you must try it, you won’t believe how really good this is.
When I make pizza at home I have to make at least one Pizza Bianca and let me tell you it is probably the first pizza that gets eaten. Tomatoes don’t always make a pizza.
Oh and what about Chocolate Chip Muffins? these are muffins stuffed with chocolate chips and a crunchy topping, can’t get better than that!
Just the other day I remade these Brown Sugar Pinwheels and I told my daughter if I was only allowed to eat one sweet food ever again this is the one I would choose!
Italian sandwich cookies, made with a flaky delicious pastry, the filling can be your choice of jam or of course Nutella, my youngest daughter would have it no other way.
And Last but not in any way least, I am going back to zucchini. Personally I think eggplant Parmigiano is over-rated, and this Zucchini Parmigiano (another sister-in-law recipe) should be given it’s fair share of the spot-light.
Buon Appetito and Happy New Year!
