Beat the egg whites until stiff, beat the egg and sugar until light and sift together the dry ingredients.
Fold in the egg whites to the egg yolk mixture a little at a time until combined and smooth.
Fold in the sifted dry ingredients a little at a time until completely combined and smooth.
Place the batter into a pastry bag with medium or large tip and make sticks about 1 1/2 - 2 inches long. Sprinkle with either powdered sugar or granulated sugar and bake.
Let the cookies cool and place on wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
