Easy Caramelized Apples
These Caramelized Apples are a simple and easy way to make the perfect topping or filling for any dessert. Spoon it over pancakes or waffles to make Breakfast even more special!
Caramelizing apples at home is a great way to control the sweetness and flavor, resulting in a better than store-bought version. This simple process magnifies the natural sugars in apples, giving them a rich, caramel flavor that pairs beautifully with so many dishes. Plus, it’s a great way to use up apples that are starting to lose their crispness.
One thing to keep in mind is that caramelized apples are not caramel apples. I love them too but no these are cut up apples that are cooked over a low heat until they become soft and golden in a delicious sauce.
How to make them
In a medium size pot melt the butter, then add the water, sugar and chopped peeled apples.
Stir and cook over medium/high heat just until the sugar has melted, then lower the heat to medium/low and continue cooking and stirring, add the cinnamon in the last couple of minutes. The apples should be tender and the sauce a golden brown colour.
Move to a clean glass jar, let cool or use warm. The longer it sits the thicker the sauce will become.
What to make with caramelized apples
You can use it warm to top your pancakes or waffles, why not spoon it over a bowl of ice cream or use it as a filling for a pie or tart shells? I used it baked directly in this delicious Caramel Apple Cake. But not only that you can also use it in savory dishes including over chicken or turkey.
So if you are looking for a delicious filling or sauce then why not give this Caramelized Apple Recipe a try and let me know how it goes.
