Food is the best gift for any occasion but especially on the day of love! In the past I have made Valentine chocolate dipped cookies and Italian Valentine’s Day tarts. These Italian strawberry filled cookies have also made an appearance a time or two!

Why You Will Love This Puff Pastry Recipe

  • Valentine’s Day dessert: A heart puff pastry is perfect for special occasions like Valentine’s Day, Easter or even Mother’s Day but also simple enough for an easy weekend treat.
  • Easy to make: Pre-made puff pastry from the store makes these quick and easy to make for your loved ones. So easy even the kids can help.
  • Versatile: Fill this heart shaped pastry with your favorite filled chocolates or even frozen balls of Hazelnut cream or Chocolate cream.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry Sheet: Store-bought puff pastry sheets make this romantic dessert easy, but homemade puff pastry would make it extra special!
  • Filling: Use your favorite filled chocolates, Hazelnut cream or chocolate cream. Be sure to freeze the chocolate or spoonfuls of the cream first.
  • Garnish: While optional, a dusting of powdered sugar makes this puff pastry heavenly or a drizzle of white, dark or even milk chocolate is extra delicious!

How to make this Two Ingredient Puff Pastry Recipe

First start by freezing the filled chocolates or hazelnut cream balls or chocolate cream balls for approximately 60 minutes.

Roll out the puff pastry and gently flatten with a rolling pin a couple of time. Cut out six rectangles, in the middle of each rectangle place a frozen chocolate or ball.

Wrap one side of the pastry over the candy (lengthwise) seal with wet fingers, bring the other side over and seal. Gently press down on the sides of the chocolate, then pinch together to form the shape of a wrapped candy.

Expert Tips

  • Thawing puff pastry: When you purchase store-bought puff pastry it is frozen. Thaw on the countertop for about 45 minutes before using. You want your puff pastry thawed but still cold.
  • Rolling and shaping: For an evenly baked puff, ensure that you are cutting the pastry into evenly sized pieces. Gently roll the pastry before cutting.
  • Hot oven: Preheating your oven is key for puff pastry to rise evenly! If you know your oven has hot spots, be sure to rotate your pan halfway through baking.
  • Garnish: Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with melted dark chocolate before serving.

Why didn’t my puff pastry puff up?

There could be a few reasons! Your puff pastry may have been too warm, your oven too cool or you may have cut your pastry too thick.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare a day in advance and bake when needed, just keep them refrigerated.

How Do I Store The Puff Pastry Candies?

While these puff pastry shaped candies are best when fresh, they can be stored for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
